Car maintenance tips for Winter

Auto Repair

Winter can cause extra wear and tear and cause damage to your vehicle. Here are a few tips to protect your car during the winter:

  • Use winter tires instead of regular tires. If the temperatures where you live stay below 45 degrees in the winter, then you should consider putting winter tires on your vehicle. Winter tires are made to provide better traction on snowy and icy roads. You should also check your tire pressure weekly, as cold air can cause tires to lose pressure.
  • Keep at least half a tank of gas in your vehicle. You mustn’t let your fuel get too low, in case of an emergency like getting stranded or snowed in.
  • Protect the windshield wipers on your vehicle. If you are expecting freezing temperatures or snow, leave your windshield wipers in the raised position so that they will not freeze to the windshield. Always use an ice scraper to remove frost, ice and snow from the windshield instead of your windshield wipers.

If you need some help getting your car ready for the colder winter temperatures, an oil change, or any other type of auto repair, drop by and see Bowers Automotive in Colorado Springs and let them help you.
